Smart Metering Initiative (SMI)
Government of Ontario
The Government of Ontario has established targets for the installation of 800,000 smart electricity meters by December 31, 2007 and installation of smart meters for all Ontario customers by December 31, 2010. Please see the Ministry of Energy's website for updates.
IESO Smart Metering System Implementation Program
The Ministry of Energy has entered into an arrangement with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) whereby the IESO will support the Government's smart metering initiative by coordinating and project-managing implementation activities. The IESO’s framework for carrying out this work is the Smart Metering System Implementation Program (SMSIP). Ontario Energy Board
The Board's role is to provide the regulatory framework for the smart metering initiative. The Roadmap identifies the projects that will comprise the Board’s regulatory framework, and will be updated from time to time as required.Additional information on specific Board processes can be accessed below.
