Inside the OEB: Who Does What?

As your energy regulator, we want your experience with us to be as straightforward and efficient as possible.

Dealing with any regulatory body can be a daunting task. It is often difficult to figure out who does what. To help you navigate the OEB, we provide a brief look below at how our organization is structured.

Organizational Structure

The OEB consists of Board members and staff:

1. Board Members

The OEB has full- and part-time Board members who are appointed by the Government of Ontario for a term of two years initially, renewable up to five years. Read the Chair and Board Members bios... The Chair and two Vice-Chairs are responsible for overseeing the management and operations of the OEB. They make up the Management Committee. The Chief Operating Officer develops, articulates and manages the OEB’s strategic plans and oversees day-to-day operations. 2. Staff / Business Areas

Market Operations

Role: Oversees energy market licensees and rate-regulated utilities

Functions:

Business Services

Role: Provides financial, human resources, IT and administrative support services to the Board

Functions:

Strategic Planning & Policy formulation

Role: Provides strategic regulatory planning and policy formulation

Function:

Legal Services

Role: Provides legal advice on all aspects of the Board’s authority and responsibilities
