Apply for a Licence

Electricity Wholesaler Licence

Section 57(e) of the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998 provides that no person is permitted to purchase electricity or ancillary services in the IESO-administered markets or directly from a generator without a licence. Section 57(f) of the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998 provides that no person is permitted to sell electricity or ancillary services through the IESO-administered markets or directly to another person, other than a consumer, without a licence.

A sample licence is available for viewing by clicking the link below. Complete and mail two copies of the application form to the Board, along with any required attachments and a cheque or money order in Canadian funds made payable to the ONTARIO ENERGY BOARD.

The application fee for an electricity wholesaler licence is $800. The annual registration fee for an electricity wholesaler is $800.

Licensees must comply with conditions set out in their licence.
