Apply for a Licence
Electricity Retailer Licence
Section 57(d) of the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998 provides that no person is permitted to retail electricity without a licence.
Retail, with respect to electricity, means:
(a) to sell or offer to sell electricity to a consumer;
(b) to act as agent or broker for a retailer with respect to the sale or offering for sale of electricity; or
(c) to act or offer to act as an agent or broker for a consumer with respect to the sale or offering for sale of electricity.

Complete and mail two copies of the application form to the Board, along with any required attachments and a cheque or money order in Canadian funds made payable to the ONTARIO ENERGY BOARD.
The application fee for an electricity retailer licence is $800. The annual registration fee for an electricity retailer is $800.
Licensees must comply with the Board's Retail Settlement Code, the Electricity Retailer Code of Conduct, and all other conditions set out in their licence.
